Weapons Used by Syrian Democratic Forces
Drones, Guided Missiles, and Other Arms
After the fall of the Assad regime in late 2024, violent clashes erupted between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian National Army (formerly known as the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army—or TFSA), particularly in the Manbij, Tishrin, and Qara Qawzak regions of Aleppo Governorate.
During these clashes, the SDF has used a variety of weaponry including guided missiles, kamikaze drones (aka “loitering munitions”), and thermal optics.
One of the group’s most common attack methods employs drones. During the clashes, SNA positions and vehicles were attacked with HE-Frag munitions dropped from numerous FPV (first-person-view) drones and DJI Mavic 3T drones with thermal vision.
