Tajik Taliban Publishes Video Threatening Dushanbe after Attacks on Tajikistan
Dushanbe accused Jamaat Ansarullah jihadists of launching an armed incursion from Afghanistan into Tajikistan on September 6, clashing with security forces before being killed and their massive weapons cache was seized. Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security (GKNB) said “their aim was to carry out a terrorist attack in Tajikistan on the eve of the state’s Independence Day” (September 9). The organization then published a long video threatening Tajikistan and calling upon Islamists within the country to immediately take up arms and begin an insurgency, pointing to the Taliban’s success in Afghanistan, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) strong and active campaign in Pakistan, and Jaish al Adl’s guerilla war in Iran as models to follow.
