The Islamic State Khurasan Province (ISKP) and supporting propaganda groups have markedly increased their criticisms and threats directed at China in recent months. There has also been a notable surge in related online chatter amongst ISKP supporters on Telegram and elsewhere. The Khurasan branch has emerged as the leading affiliate in producing and disseminating anti-China media content and has been publishing increasingly detailed and nuanced materials. In addition to its media warfare efforts, ISKP has targeted Chinese nationals and interests in an attack on a Kabul hotel in December 2022, and a suicide bombing on January 11 outside of the Taliban’s foreign ministry building as a Chinese delegation was reportedly set to attend a meeting there.
