Russia and Ukraine both use mostly Soviet-designed small arms and weapons systems. Before foreign military aid to Ukraine began arriving in significant quantities in 2022, Russia had more modern weapon systems in its inventory than Ukraine. However, with recent aid, Ukraine has added modern and effective weapon systems to its arsenal, though Russia still enjoys a numerical tube and ammunition advantage.
