On April 15, 2023, the "Rapid Support Forces" (RSF), formerly a paramilitary group affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces, attempted a coup against the current government. Although the coup attempt was unsuccessful, it evolved into a crisis that sparked intense battles across the country.

During the fighting, the RSF used a variety of weapons. Some of these weapons were in their inventories, some of them were captured from the stocks of the Sudanese Army, and some have their origins in different countries.

A selection of the most common weapons used by the RSF can be seen in the photo above. The fighter in the foreground carries a Sudanese 5.56x45mm 'Terab' rifle. This weapon is a copy of Norinco CQ 5.56, which is a copy of the M16.
